£28,163 pro rata (£22,834 actual)

Our council and the role:
Thatcham Town Council is the first tier of local government, serving the residents of Thatcham at grassroots level. The Town Council plays a vital role in representing the interests of the community of Thatcham and works hard to improve the quality of life and local environment for residents. Working closely with the Events Manager, these roles will play a vital part in delivering Thatcham’s vibrant programme of community and civic events. From the ever-popular Thatcham Family Fun Day to the festive Warming Up for Christmas celebrations, our events calendar is full of exciting activities that enrich the Town’s cultural and social life.
Duties will include:
KEY DUTIES Community & Civic Events Collaborate with the Events Manager and fellow Events Officer in the planning and execution of small and medium scale community and civic events.
Tasks will include, but not limited to:- Managing specific elements of events, as directed by the Events Manager Actively participate in on-site event management, ensuring smooth operations and a positive experience for attendees
- Actively assist in the development of creative event concepts, themes and entertainment ideas
- Identify and co-ordinate the integration of communities and partners into events
- Liaise with vendors, suppliers and community stakeholders as required to ensure successful event partnerships, seeking best value at all times
- Contribute to post-event evaluations and feedback processes for continual improvement Maintain accurate records and databases related to events
- Attend meetings of the Events Committee and Events Working Party, as necessary
- Public Relations / Run engaging marketing and promotional campaigns via a multitude of Communication media, to engage all areas of the community Facilitate recording and live-streaming of events and activities
- Administer the Council’s Heritage Working Party, coordinating quarterly meetings, preparing agendas and reports, and managing minutes and followup actions
- Design and implement an engaging programme to promote Thatcham's heritage through various media channels Develop projects to promote and enhance the town's historic profile and source external funding through sponsorships and grants to support approved projects
- Write and review Risk Assessments for events and activities
- On the day of events, conduct Health & Safety inspections and dynamic risk assessments, addressing actions as necessary
- Alert the Events Manager of any actions identified, and action taken #
- Support Senior Managers and colleagues as needed
- Undertake training as required and to support personal development Such other duties as the Town Council may require from time to time
- Management of elements of predetermined budgets for each event.
The ideal candidate will have/be:
Essential
- Mathematics and English Language GCSE Grade A* - C (or equivalent)
- Event management experience
- At least 3 years’ experience of working in an administrative role
- Experience of marketing and promotion across a variety of media
- Experience of analysing and summarising a variety of documents
- Health & Safety and risk management experience
- Methodical and organised approach to tasks with meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to conduct research and analyse and present outcomes
- Ability to multi-task
- Excellent oral and accurate observation, communication and listening skills
- Excellent customer care skills
- Ability to develop and maintain effective administrative systems
- Experience of dealing with members of the public and the ability to handle potentially challenging or emotional situations
- Ability to plan and prioritise own workload to meet fixed deadlines
- Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure, prioritising competing demands
- Ability to solve problems, use initiative and work without close supervision whilst recognising limitations and knowing when to ask for assistance
- Ability to understand and follow instructions and procedures
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as constructively as part of a team
